"Saving Mr. Banks" depicts the untold backstory of the 20-year struggle to get "Mary Poppins" onto the silver screen. After making a promise to his two daughters, Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) pulls out all stops in order to obtain the rights of P.L. Travers' (Emma Thompson) beloved book, "Mary Poppins." Armed with imaginative storyboards and songs from the talented Sherman brothers (Jason Schwartzman, B.J. Novak), Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the author doesn't budge. It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about her past, and together they set Mary Poppins free.
John Lee Hancock directs Emma Thompson. Tom Hanks. Conn Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, Bradley Whitford, Annie Rose Buckley, Ruth Wilson, B.J. Novak, Rachel Griffiths and Kathy Baker.
