• Was not able to make the Island trip fit (my loss - it would have been fun). Lesley is looking for a joint time with Botstein in the next few weeks. I'm leaving the city tonight, but am back Friday afternoon until Monday lunch, if you are in the city, I'm free.

• Last night was looking through a book on mycelium (mushroom and fungus biology). A lot of the associated orientation is new age and flakey stuff, but there might be some worthwhile biological insights/knowledge subsiding in the biological tactics that have evolved in this phylum, especially spore development and propagation. I will let you know if something turns up which might be applicable more generally to theories of various kinds (risk curtailment and abatement, contagion in large populations, evolutionary strategy, etc).

Yes, the book I was looking at was by Paul Stamets, a friend of Andy Weil's. (Weil was my Fathers roomate at Harvard for a few months in the '60s - he is a pioneer).

I think insects provide more opportunity than mushrooms and i see almost no work on it, .

Insects-some good theoretical work on vectors, evolution of sex, etc comes out of Oxford and Princeton, but little else (Bob May and Simon Levin might be go-to people for suggestions). The question is knowing what to look for and where to look (as usual). Lets get together in NYC. Here today (13th), end of day this friday (18th), and possibly next monday, etc. Could also come by early Friday the 18th if you are up to it - 6:00am, 6:30, etc. Don't have a breakfast until 8:30 that day, with Henry Timms of 92nd St. Y- do you know him? Any news from Botstein?
