AEI: Addressing the Attendance Crisis: New Research on Chronic Absenteeism Since the Pandemic — Friday, May 30, 2025. Location: AEI Auditorium, 2:00 PM. The COVID-19 pandemic had devastating effects on students across the country. One lasting consequence is the sustained crisis of chronic absenteeism. After the pandemic, millions more students are still missing over a tenth of the school year, which historically has led to disengagement and poor academic performance.
