As you know, the Lease requires 6 months termination notice, which means 6 mos of rental payments.
John told me that the landlord has two partners and he is friendly with both, though more friendly with one of them, and as a result JOhn felt that he could possibly get us out of the lease with only 1 month payment. I told John to try and do so. John e-mailed me this morning that the partner with whom John was more friendly was willing to accept one month, but the other partner wanted all 6 months. John claimed that he got the two partners to "compromise" at 5 months. I told John that 5 months is not a compromise and to go back to them with 3 months. I reminded John that if we simply waited for a lawsuit to pay, it would cost the landlord much more than the amount compromised to recover the money. So three months rent is a good result. John advised me by e-mail that the landlord accepted the three months, so long as we made sure that we paid all three months immediately and cleared our property off the lot within
the week.
Rent is $2084 per month. Total amount due for 6 mos is $12,504.
Do I have your permission to settle the lease for $6,252?
Please advise.
