Dear JE,
I need to give MAC Capital 12-18 months to have something solid on my CV, but then I'm out of here. As of now, my plan is to return to New York or go to London.
Dubai diary:
+30 C so still a bit on the chilly side...
New York, New York
I don't want to hear "what did I tell you".
I woke up in anxiety: I miss New York! I want to move back to New York! This town is suffocating me. I can't stay in this desert-town with its 50-levels, futuristic towers; oversized SUVs; and Arabs who have more money than God, and me, fighting myself bloody with one of them.
I need to leave this desert-Mickey-Mouse-wanna-be-town.
Miraj - an illusion
I went to Miraj, an Islamic museum where all objects are for sale. Supposedly, it's shockingly expensive, but for someone who spent seven years in New York and saw exhibitions where a drawer costs $100,000; $10,000 for a huge, antique table doesn't seem that much...
Miscellaneous
I managed to get through this month without any speeding tickets!
Dubai is a fishbowl
Dubai is so small that after a year I've started recycling men. Back to the very first guy I dated here. I'm also back to remembering why I shouldn't have dated him to begin with.
It feels a bit retro to date a Lebanese. I've put a few nationalities between myself and the Lebanese by now: Saudis and Croations; recycled Saudis...
Since Dubai is so small, the guys I've dated are around. They're not disappearing like in New York where the city just absorbs them. In Dubai it doesn't matter if you lose track of them, because you'll bump into them professionally or socially.
(In Dubai there are only 100,000 people in my social circle. The remaining 1.3 million are ... not in my social circle...)
Work
People keep asking me about work. It's investment banking, ok. It's boring, ok. It will not help mankind. End of transmission.
Take care and God bless,
