Report #65: dental implants, ribcage...
Shopping when poor
Now I know why poor people have made shopping a hobby: If you have to shop cheap it takes FOREVER to find something half decent
Since I'm now one of the poorest people in Dubai, the labor people aside, I can barely afford to shop at H&M. I'm talking a $10 item once every two months. That's how little I make.
Dental Implant
I had a new dental crown put in one night. It broke the next morning. I'm starting to get scared. I had so many bad things happen to me here since I moved here: 4 jobs, mean-ass boss, stalkers, car accident, lung infection, bad doctors, broken crown...
Maybe I should leave this town before something really bad happens to me...
MAC Capital
Nevertheless, I will weather out the subprime crises. Apparently there's a migration of bankers from subprime-hit cities to Dubai. At this point I'm lucky to have a job even though Investment Banking sucks.
The boss' nickname for me is "Trouble". He told me he knows I will be a lot of trouble to him, he can see it in my eyes.
After all, it feels as if I'm starting to feel at home at work.
My boss came over to me and my colleague. He told my colleague to work hard. He then looked over at me: "…and you… just work… just start working…"
According to Financial Times, the average stay with the same employer in finance is seven months in Dubai.
Lonely
I think it must be one of the loneliest cities… Everyone seems to be so alone and only surrounded by superficial acquaintances who doesn't satisfy the need for human contact.
Lungs
Went out for a MAC company outing at Trader Vic's and ended up getting an elbow into my back. My lungs are overly sensitive to stress after the lung infection, so I've been thrown back into pain when breathing and pain in ribcage.
Apartment
Might get kicked out of the apartment because the landlord might have found someone to rent it with one check for a year.
Dubai Marina
The towers in the Marina are popping up to left and right. Since the city-planning people overlooked the fact that many residential towers require more roads, there's actually traffic getting out of my tower! I have to wake up earlier so I can start queuing earlier to get out on the street!
OK, I'm now headed out to a beach BBQ. It's 5:30 pm and +40 C (104F) and humidity 20%, so we're happy about that.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
