Jeffrey,
Ref: Bell 407, N491GM
The leather ordered and installed from Edelman’s was NOT burn tested.
Paul Schreuder from Edwards informed me, and I told Sarah, that any leather that was supplied by the customer will have to be sent for burn certification.
When Edwards learned that you selected Edelman’s leather, which is an aviation approved leather that fire certifies their leather, they ASSUMED that it would have the appropriate paper work.
I had pushed Edwards to complete interior as fast as possible, they fabricated the seats assuming that burn certificates would follow. (normally leather and paper work are shipped as one, at that point I should have been contacted by Edwards and asked “where the certificates are?).
I learned on Friday that the leather was ordered by Sarah specifically with out burn certification. I am sure that Sarah was under the same impression as I, that Paul would complete burn Certs.
Edelmans has sent a leather sample for certification from same batch, I will have an answer Wed morning if it passes. If it does not, which is my guess, Edwards will pay for the new piece of hide that is in stock and ready to be sent for Burn certification. It takes 7 days to fire block and test leather, 7 days to fabricate seats and 2 days to install.
I take full responsibility for this major mistake and delay.
