Hi all,

The first bit of news may have a negative effect on our club and the east end community we all enjoy. I believe we should be very concerned about a large power boat, the Leland Sneed, setting up permanently in Christmas Cove with a Willy T wining and dining environment just across from the club. Currently the original Willy T sits in The Bight of Norman Island which is devoid of civilization. Christmas Cove is a different story - it is a designated marine sanctuary right across from Anchorage, Cowpet, Elysian Condos and the Club which is high density residential. Current Cut sitting just to the north is highly trafficked area that has quite a bit of both commercial and private boat traffic in a highly contained area. Do we really need to look out from our balconies and see an 80 ft floating dock attached to a 115 boat with high powered loud boats flying around all hours of the day and night and constantly putting our junior sailors in jeopardy. Do we need blasting music 7 days a week with drunk swimmers all over Christmas Cove. If this is anything like the Willy T, which is their intent, we will also have naked people diving off the roof to win a free t shirt. This has actually led to  2 drowning deaths in the BVI. They are talking about quiet 'pub dining' but this is unlikely the reality of the situation. Please contact your friends, condo board and yacht club board members and make them aware that a public hearing will take place on Tuesday March 4th on the 2nd floor of the airport. I believe this group is well organized and it will take a good showing and succinct speeches on all our parts to prevent this travesty from happening right on our doorstep (written with permission from the Commodore).

Please get involved with this one - it won't be good for us!

Now the good news! Pray for Sunsine as the Chrysler Cup Tennis Tournament kicks off today at the club and 4 other local sites. Now the largest tennis tournament in the VI hosted by STYC and sponsored by club member Bill Lambert's company, Chrysler, Dodge Jeep, it will offer great matches to be  viewed  on Friday night all day Saturday and Sunday. Club members may also see matches at the Anchorage next store to our courts. Congrats to Helga Hosie, Director  and Elsbeth Rowaan, Assistant Director, for the countless hours they have put into ensure success. This year we have some real outstanding players entered and the semis and finals will be very a real treat for the local tennis communiy and our club players. A reception at STYC on Saturday evening for the players is open to club members for a $10 donation. see Helga Hosie st the courts for a ticket before noon on Saturday.
