Dear Jeffrey,
Season's Greetings!
1. Thank
you for bringing Martin Nowak and me together - he is a huge musicophile!
I thought you would enjoy the email exchange below. We are beginning to
explore a joint project on music, grammar, evolution, and the
brain.
2. On Jan 8th 2P, The Institute for Music & Brain
Science Board is meeting in Cambridge and, after the meeting, we are getting
together with Scott Jones (Gracenote etc), whom Jack Gill (Vanguard Ventures)
has identified as a potential fellow Board member who could help us R&D the
"MusicMedPak" and "MusicHealthPak" I told you about (menuing systems will be
important for patient-controlled sound environments and virtual
realities). The ffing day, Scott will lecture in Jack's MIT course on
Entrepreneurship in the BioTech Industry. The 1/8/07 mtg is for Board
members with business acumen: Jamie Singleton MBA (Cypress/Westco),
Caroline Bienstock JD MBA (CarlinAmerica Music), Robbie Lee (I & Ear
Records, Tom's son), Nick Zervas (HMS Neurosurg Chief/BSO ex-Pres), and Robert
Freeman (long-time Director of the Eastman School of Music and ex-President of
the New England Conservatory of Music, who retired and is interested in taking
on the job of CEO for 6-12 mos to help build The Institute.) Will you be
able to attend?
Peace & Love,
Mark

Dear Martin,
Thank
you and CONGRATULATIONS on the laudatory review of your book in Nature (I am
heading to Amazon after this email) and for the pdf of your review article in
Science this month. AND the Nature review. Wow!
Please excuse
the delay in writing this thank-you note amidst holidaying...let's get together
and talk about Don Carlo etc - sounds like you experienced some autonomic
overflow in Vienna! Might you be available for lunch (my turn) tomorrow Thurs
Dec 28th? I will be at Neurology Grand Rounds at MGH in the morning for
our annual "Ether Drum" - started by a couple of drummer chief-residents 5 yrs
ago - faculty, residents, students, and staff come to the Ether Dome at 9A to
sit in a circle and drum for 45 mins together - I usually bring my Roland 808
electronic kit...you are welcome to join us!
Holiday/New Year
Cheers,
Mark
