george and steve
count me in. i shall again try to drive home the
point about the
pleasure genome initiative. but let me know if
this subject is too
strange for our patron.

i still think that a broad based description of
pleasure signatures
in the brain would be the farthest reaching harvard
goal, capturing
folks from economics and law and psychology and
biology. it is
also just as much about obesity as it is about
sexuality. an
exploration of fear also seems pretty timely, and
likely to reveal
just as ancient genetic precedents. and if you
explain our urges
to find mates and food, and flee from predation and
nasty
environments, there is not much else to explain.
(ie intellectual
satisfaction must be related to these more
primitive
satisfactions----why invent a new form, when just a
bit of circuit
duplication and voila, consciousness).

i also REALLY like undervaluing the cortex,
which arrogant
neurobiologists think is the only tissue worthy of
their
ruminations. it is our urges which make us pursue
goals, both short
and long term. understanding the animal parts of
the brain is a
hugely interesting goal.

more to follow on mar 13. but i promise. will
not harp on
this for more than 5 min
i will think about who else would enjoy this.....
see you
gary
