Because so many of the participants are at MIT, we would prefer to

hold the conference in the new Stata Building at MIT. Jeffrey might

enjoy seeing this good example of bad architecture!

We decided to have only a very small meeting to discuss the important

problems the project must solve—and then to agree more specifically

on what the project will need to accomplish. So we’re only inviting the

advanced researchers who we expect to supervise the work on those problems.

Accordingly, we won’t invite any potential sponsors to this, until we get our story straight.

Then we'll replace our old informal proposal by a more specific plan. However, we’d

very much like to have Jeffrey's advice on how to proceed from that point. So we are only

inviting the people below:

Marvin Minsky: Originator of the overall design for “The Emotion Machine.”

Profs. Gerald Sussman and Hal Abelson: World-class experts on “The Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs.” For 20 years, they supervised the required course in programming at MIT.

Prof . Patrick Winston: Author of some of the most influential articles on Artificial Intelligence, and teacher of the principal AI course at MIT.

Robert Hearn: This researcher has made the most successful program based on the theories in The Society of Mind book. He is also a specialist in neurological theories of how the cerebral cortex is organized.

Oliver Steele: Specialist in theories of language and semantics, and former project leader of the Dylan programming language project at Apple Computer.
