I sent Clint a message on Wednesday explaining my need for him to return to St. Thomas to repair autopilot on Boeing. His exact response was: “Out of town., unavailable until tomorrow, will discuss options then”.
I spoke to him Thursday night at 8pm, he told me he had a job interview on Oct 6 and 7th , and he would be unable to go on a Paris trip.  I informed him that it was unacceptable at this time and I asked him to make a choice.  Either stay and give his full attention to JEGE or resign.
I informed Clint that his performance as flight engineer has been documented by myself and I will not jeopardize our future safety with a negative attitude.
1. He has been observed sleeping at the flight engineer panel by Mr. Epstein at least two occasions
2. We had been monitoring a pressurization problem. During the flight he did not monitor the cabin altitude altimeter located on the flight engineer panel and allowed the cabin altitude  to climb over 10,000 feet, sounding the cabin altitude warning horn before making the adjustment stop the cabin from climbing. Very serious,
3. 95% of the time, pilots have to remind Clint to swap bleed source at 30,000 feet on engines 1 and 2, to prevent a compressor stall of the center engine.
4. Clint installed a pack cooling fan on the ground in Newark,  45 days ago, he informed me that he ran the system on the ground for 20 mins and he approved it for return to service, we departed on the next flight and the cooling fan failed taxing out, we continued the flight to St. Thomas, after trouble shooting on the ground in St. Thomas, we learned that Clint installed the cooling fan wires in reverse and fan ran backwards,  He admitted to running the fan for 2 seconds since he assumed it was fixed, and it was going to rain,  if he ran for 1 min the pack would overheat and noticed this immediately. He admitted lying to myself,  Larry Morrison and the rest of the crew after we learned of this mistake.
5. He has slammed the rear pressure bulk head door located across from Master bathroom in rear of plane in frustration when I asked to assist in loading helicopter luggage on arrival rather than standing around. This is a very heavy door with a complicated locking mechanism which is easily damaged.

 

I received a verbal resignation last night over the phone, and waiting for written confirmation.
 I could not let this go any further and need to resolve this with his resignation or dismissal.
