thanks Jeffrey... I enjoyed our discussion, and will think on the marriage vs religion issue.. 

 

Also, are you seriously interested in meeting chomsky?  If you are I can try and work on it, but it would

probably involve us going up to boston together..

 

Finally, Arizona.. I am very excited that you are excited...   My thinking is that ultimately Origins will need

about $30 Million..  a $10 Million leadership gift, maybe even tied to the University raising matching funds

would jump start things so we could ramp up toward full operations quickly.. but even $1M up front to seed

activities...  If I can show Arizona that there is interest right away, that will go a long way toward the university

moving quickly to grow this..

 

some thoughts about things we didn't discuss

 

1. one purpose will be to bring together the world's best for short periods.. i.e. months, to focus on a

key outstanding problem..  This will be easier than trying to recruit a whole bunch of people quickly.   As

I said, I think we can recruit a few stars with unusual offers, but the constant influx of great people will

establish a tradition that will be important...  the symposium will help introduce everyone to the reality that

we can get anyone there..

 

2. The institute NEEDs to have a summer location...  it cannot function in AZ in summer.. whether that

is up in Flagstaff or somewhere else is something that has to be determined....    I have great interest

expressed in Zurich in having their summer location in the mountains as a possible home... or, if I could

convince Oxford to host a summer home that is another possibility...
