I was thinking about your dilemma, which is in fact parallel to my own. So, why not take the same approach you took with me: Start by thinking about what you are uniquely good at and what do you enjoy doing. I'll tell you one thing: You arc the best person I know at drawing ideas out of people and helping people refine the ideas. If that appeals, why not think of a structure that will allow you to do this in a way that ends up being fun and useful for you? A random thought/example: A few times, George Church and I got together and just freeassociated. During one of those sessions, maybe 8 years ago, we came up with the idea for the eyeglass product that Google just made such a big deal about. (We wanted it to help us remember faces, in particular. I looked into patenting it, but found too much "prior art" that was too similar.... I'll be interested to see how the Google lawyers deal with this.) What if you host such sessions and draw people out? You could do this once every two weeks, say -- and even bridge to VCs, if you are interested (I know that you don't want to run the companies yourself). Enough rambling. Just some thoughts...
