We were paying tax over the last few years since we had given over 1,000,000 in gifts over your lifetime. However for 2011 and 2012 any gifts that we normally pay gift tax on (2010 rate 35%) will go against your new exemption of 5,000,000 and no tax will be due as long as less than 4,000,000 is gifted in total over both years.
