Click the dot again to make it not-full-screen again, then use the sides to drag it smaller (when you hover over the edge of a window the cursor should change to a double-headed arrow indicating it's ready to resize the window). If somehow the non-full-screen window is bigger than your screen so the edges are "off the canvas" and ungrabable, Option + clicking the green dot will snap the window to the size of the screen.
