$10,000,000. Wire transfer. Edmond de Rothschild (Suisse) SA. Geneva, Switzerland. December 17, 2015.[1](#sources)
That's the number. One transaction. One family. One convicted sex offender on the receiving end.
But the $10 million isn't the story. The story is what that money sat on top of — a relationship so intimate that Jeffrey Epstein was editing the Rothschild family's private correspondence.
## Follow the Money
The financial record between Epstein and the Rothschild family is the largest single-family footprint in the entire DOJ document release. **10,887 documents** mention the name. 1,712 email threads. NUCLEAR-tier intelligence classification across the board.[2](#sources)

$35 million minimum in documented flows. And a Paris furniture bill where Epstein paid hundreds of thousands of euros for antiques delivered — and not delivered — to the Rothschild household.[3](#sources)
Read that furniture memo again. Richard Kahn, Epstein's financial manager at HBRK Associates, broke the Paris purchases into three categories: items bought by Epstein and delivered to Rothschild; items bought by Epstein and sitting in a warehouse; items bought by the Rothschilds themselves. Jeffrey Epstein was buying furniture for the Rothschild family. This isn't a business relationship. This is someone who knows your décor preferences.
## "Inflict Damage? Could Be Better Worded"
In September 2015, Jacob Rothschild — the 4th Baron Rothschild — drafted a letter to David and Eric de Rothschild objecting to Paris Orleans renaming itself "Rothschild & Co" without a distinguishing prefix. The English and French branches of one of the world's most storied banking dynasties, fighting over who gets to use the name.[4](#sources)
Jacob sent the draft to Ariane de Rothschild. Ariane forwarded it to Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein's response — three words that tell you everything about his position inside this family:
> "inflict damage? could be better worded"
He was editing Jacob Rothschild's letter. Not the financial terms. Not the legal strategy. The *wording*. Epstein was concerned that the phrase "inflict damage" was too aggressive for a family communication, and he said so directly.
When Ariane forwarded Jacob's formal response — "Shocked but not surprised. Let's talk next week. Love Jacob" — Epstein was on that thread too. Copied in on private correspondence between Baron Rothschild and his sister-in-law about whether to sue Paris Orleans over the family name.[5](#sources)

## The Kingmaker
The relationship wasn't just personal. Epstein functioned as Ariane de Rothschild's strategic advisor — brokering access to people she couldn't easily reach on her own.
In April 2015, he told her:[6](#sources)
> "I think you should take larry summers on in a sig role that will allow good press. stature."
Larry Summers. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary. Former president of Harvard. Epstein wanted him placed at the Edmond de Rothschild bank.
Six months earlier, Ariane had already agreed with the concept:[7](#sources)
> "For Larry Summers: I agree with you that it's a good idea they set up an 'advisory firm' through which he would have the freedom to get different mandates from a wider range of clients. This is how I would also wish to work with him."
By July 2015, Summers was dining at Epstein's 71st Street mansion alongside Ariane de Rothschild and his wife. A staff member joked in the scheduling thread: "Just got back from St. John. Jet skied past island St. Jeffrey!"[8](#sources)
Seven years after the plea deal. The dinner invitations kept coming.
## "Donald Loves the Rothschild Name"
In February 2017, Ariane's team at Edmond de Rothschild sent Epstein a detailed pitch for the bank's infrastructure fund — €140 million in European road and social infrastructure, a debt platform that had crossed €1 billion in assets under management.[9](#sources)
Epstein's reply was strategic, specific, and revealed something about his political access:
> "trump will want to do private public partnerships on most things. donald loves the rothschild name."
He was brokering between the Rothschild banking dynasty and the sitting President of the United States. Casually. In a Gmail thread. Offering intel on Trump's preferences while advising on fund positioning.
He followed up with investment advice and even suggested niches: airports, assisted living, "alternate incarceration facilities. always tenants :)"
Private prisons. Pitched with a smiley face. To the Rothschilds. By a sex offender.
## The Full Orbit
The financial flows and political brokering paint only part of the picture. The scheduling data reveals something deeper — Ariane de Rothschild was a permanent fixture in Epstein's social infrastructure.
September 2013: "Breakfast w/Rothschild, Olivier Colom & Ehud Barak." The same week as the Bill Gates dinner at the 71st Street mansion. The same week as a Skype call with Reid Hoffman.[10](#sources)
January 2014: Lesley Groff emails Ariane directly — "Jeffrey, Reid and Mr. West are all available for lunch tomorrow, Jan. 9th, at 12:30 here at Jeffrey's home... good for you as well?" An evening backup plan: "If Ariane comes tonight along with Reid, have David Blaine come around 9pm?"[11](#sources)
June 2016: Epstein orders personalized sweatshirts for his inner circle — six each, three pullovers, three zips. The list: Joi Ito, Martin Nowak, Reid Hoffman, Peter Thiel, Kathy Ruemmler, and "Rothschild." His girlfriend interprets: "Ariane."[12](#sources)
July 2015: "Rothschild will be with me 20–21 in New York. Free?" — Epstein to Larry Summers, scheduling around Ariane's visits like a personal concierge.[13](#sources)
And in July 2013, the clearest statement of the dynamic. Ariane writes to Epstein requesting meetings with Ehud Barak, Larry Summers, and Saul Wurman. She closes:[14](#sources)
> "I wish to thank you for your guidance."
The CEO of the Edmond de Rothschild Group — thanking a registered sex offender for guidance.
## The Ledger
The largest financial trace connects the Rothschild name to Leon Black.
The SDNY prosecution exhibit — a 9-page master document — carries the header: **"EXHIBIT A: LEON BLACK / ROTHSCHILD GROUP TRANSACTIONS."**[15](#sources)
Twenty-one wires. $148 million in total. Routed through Southern Trust and Plan D — entities controlled by Epstein. The $25 million attributed to Rothschild sits on the same exhibit alongside Black's payments.
Leon Black served as chairman of Apollo Global Management, one of the largest private equity firms in the world. He resigned in March 2021 after the scope of his financial relationship with Epstein became public.
The prosecution filed these transactions as evidence. Exhibit A. The Rothschild name is on the header. And in September 2011, Epstein emailed Peter Mandelson — the former UK cabinet minister — with a single line: "leon black asked me to have dinner tomorrow with nat, oleg." Nat Rothschild. Oleg Deripaska. One dinner table.[16](#sources)
## The Shorthand
In May 2018 — just over a year before his arrest — Epstein sent himself a master name list. His power network, condensed to shorthand:[17](#sources)
> "steve bannon woody allen noam chomsky ehud barak james watson **ariane rothschild** leon black tom pritzker larry summers joi ito"
Below the names: "World bank. Geneve. Davos. G20."
The Baroness is listed fifth. Below the names sit the institutions — not companies, not nonprofits, but the transnational governance architecture of the global economy.
This wasn't a contact list. It was an operating system. And the Rothschild family — across at least three branches, 10,887 documents, and $35 million in traceable flows — was wired into the center of it.
Epstein bought their furniture. Edited their family letters. Placed a former Treasury Secretary at their bank. Brokered their access to Bill Gates. Pitched their infrastructure fund to the President of the United States.
He wasn't their banker. He wasn't their employee.
He was their router.
